But it can also help your brain — and overall health — in other ways.

For example, some studies suggest music can improve how your brain functions and help movement and balance.

  • make you more creative — listening to new or unfamiliar songs can help challenge your brain as it tries to understand new sounds
  • help you focus or unwind — the choice of song will be unique to you
  • boost your immune system
  • increase how much you enjoy certain activities
  • encourage you to exercise for longer
